Context

Solving global challenges requires efficient cooperation among private and public sector actors. Through the develoPPP funding programme, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been working for over 25 years with companies that are often industry leaders and drivers of innovation in their respective fields.

Joint projects combine the expertise offered by both sides: the companies contribute industry-specific knowledge, new technologies and innovative approaches, while GIZ offers development policy expertise, trained staff in the field and a global network encompassing policy-makers, the private sector and civil society.

Objective

This is a win-win situation for the companies that achieve business success and for local people who benefit from development and better living conditions.

Approach

With develoPPP Classic and develoPPP Ventures, the programme offers tailored funding options for established companies and emerging start-ups alike.

Interested companies can apply for funding at the regularly held ideas competitions. Partnerships can be established in all partner countries of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and can cover a diverse range of sectors and topics. Examples include training local experts, piloting innovative technologies, securing value chains and improving environmental and social standards.

BMZ provides funding of up to EUR two million for suitable initiatives, and companies are required to cover at least half of the total cost themselves.

GIZ is implementing the programme alongside DEG Impulse gGmbH.
